From 90’s teenage grunge to the halls of the MET gala, we take a closer look at fashionable films that give us timeless style inspiration, and something to binge watch this weekend.
The Devil Wears Prada
We couldn’t possibly talk about fashion and film without paying homage to the modern-day classic that is The Devil Wears Prada. With some major outfit moments and a serious style evolution, it’s no wonder the film is one we still love to watch today.
Clueless
There isn’t a film more quintessentially 90’s than Clueless. From teenage lingo we all remember (and would like to forget) to huge cell phones the size of our heads, there’s nothing subtle about this film’s style. After all, there’s no one who can rock a yellow checkered suit set like Cher did.
Ocean’s 8
While Ocean’s 8 isn’t a fashion-centred film, it’s still an obvious contender for one of the most stylish films of the year. With cameos from the likes of Anna Wintour herself and Cate Blanchett’s stunning suit sets, there’s no shortage of iconic style moments throughout the film.
Yves Saint Laurent
A film about one of fashion’s most iconic designers, the French biopic so aptly named “Yves Saint Laurent” brings us behind the veil of the designer’s career. Watch as actor Pierre Niney brings the character and his breathtaking designs to life.
The Royal Tenenbaums
Wes Anderson delivered his signature curated colour palettes and quirk with this film, and it has to be one of our favourites from the award winning director. From Margot Tenenbaum’s fur coats and polo dresses to Chas’ adidas tracksuit set, there’s just so much to love about this off the rails family film.
Sex And The City
Though the movie spin-off wasn’t as momentous as the HBO series we all know and love, Sex And The City never disappoints when it comes to serving looks. From a major Vivienne Westwood wedding dress to fashion week glamour, you can always count on Sex And The City for timeless style inspiration.
Call Me By Your Name
Set against a pastel-hued countryside, we watch as two young men fall fashionably in love while lounging around a family villa in Italy. Call Me By Your Name is summer menswear fashion at its finest—just think micro-shorts and chest baring shirts.
A Single Man
As fashion designer Tom Ford’s directorial debut, A Single Man reflects his style while packing all the substance of a proper film. With a cast led by the adorable Colin Firth and Nicholas Hoult, the film delivers scenes that look straight out of a magazine while tugging painfully at our heartstrings.
