1. What got you started in photography?
I took Photojournalism as a module in my final year as a Mass Communication student, and my lecturer recommended me for an internship at The Straits Times as a photojournalist. Things snowballed from there!
The fashion industry as a whole has fascinated me since I was a young girl, and it just so happens that photography is the medium that I communicate my ideas best in.
2. How would you describe your photography style?
I’ve described it as youthful, dreamy and feminine in the past, but I’ve noticed that my style is slowly shifting away from that. While I love constructing sets and props to complete the story presented in my photos, I like photos where the model looks comfortable and natural, even if the scenario is completely fantastical and unbelievable.
3. What is it like being a female photographer in a male-dominated industry?
It’s great that times have changed, and female photographers are no longer a rare find in the industry. While the difference between a photograph taken by a female and male photographer may not be discernible, it’s interesting to experience and observe the difference in how a male and female photographer would approach the same subject matter – especially when it’s sensual in nature (think lingerie or nude shoots). In an era where we’re constantly exposed to all forms of “sexy” media, showing a female’s perspective of sexuality through her lens could help promote a balanced perception of what counts as sexy for young girls (and boys too).

4. What advice would you give to young women starting careers in male-dominated industries?
We can do it!!!
5. If you could photograph anyone in the world, who would you most like to photograph?
This changes all the time – as of this moment, I’d love to photograph Warpaint for a fashion editorial or campaign.
Considering my love for kitschy and colourful things… I can’t help but love things that are so bad it’s good.Lenne
6. What’s ahead for you in 2017?
I’m doing an extended stay in Los Angeles in April – I’m excited to find out what’s ahead too!
7. As a fashion photographer, have you made any fashion boo-boos?
Considering my love for kitschy and colourful things, I’m sure it’s inevitable that I have… I can’t help but love things that are so bad it’s good.
