1. What is the best part of being a hair stylist, and the worst?

The best and most satisfying part of being a hairstylist is the joy you see on the client’s face after a makeover. You know you have done it right when they return for their style change, and even refer their friends. The most challenging part is the process of educating every client differently according to their hair needs, and helping them understand what has to be done to solve their hair woes.

2. What are some of the challenges you faced when you first started out?

When I first started out, the poor hair wash, unsatisfactory blow dries and unskillful colouring application resulted in many negative feedback and even scolding by clients and teachers. However, all these are part of learning process in the early stages of being a hairstylist. Until today, I strongly believe we have to strive to improve and continuously seek ways to provide better service, better techniques and a better “me”.

3. Did you have a mentor when you first started out? How did he/she influence the work you do today?

I did not have a mentor when I first started out, I was an apprentice. I met Gary 8 years ago and he has taught me a lot, we always believe in the constant need for improvement and introducing new solutions to meet the ever changing demands.

4. You’re now the owner of a few salons, care to share some tips to your success?

I would say your people are your biggest asset. Appreciate them, care for them and love them. Without them I won’t be able to share this success.
